UPMC Whitfield and WIT Vikings GAA Club Announce Multi-Year Sponsorship
UPMC announced its sponsorship of the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) GAA club for the next three years, until August 2021.
As the main sponsor for the WIT Vikings GAA Club, UPMC has exclusive branding rights for all college teams’ gear under the umbrella of the WIT Vikings GAA Club, including hurling, men’s and ladies football, camogie and handball.
The WIT Vikings GAA Club currently has 18 teams competing in 25 competitions each year, amounting to over 130 games across five codes. The sponsorship is part of UPMC Whitfield’s ongoing commitment to building healthier communities in the South East.
“UPMC is proud to link our brand with some of the finest athletes in the South East,” said UPMC Vice President and Ireland country manager David Beirne. “But it’s more than that. WIT and UPMC Whitfield have been working together for years with nursing and academic endeavors. This sponsorship strengthens that relationship and paves the way for even greater collaboration in the future.”
“The WIT Vikings GAA Club is delighted to have UPMC Whitfield coming on board as our main sponsor for the next three years. Having worked closely with UPMC over the last year in co-hosting a number of sports forums in the WIT Arena, this sponsorship now solidifies our close collaboration and will greatly enable our club to cater for the increasing number of players studying at WIT. Facilitating participation in Gaelic Games for both young men and women, in tandem with their progression in their college education is central to the ethos of our club. We are not only the oldest third level GAA Club but also one of the most innovative and partnering with UPMC Whitfield, a world class health care provider is a natural fit for our club. We very much look forward to working with them over the next three years” said Katie Redmond, WIT GAA Development Officer.
Earlier this year, as part of its expansion of world-class health care in Ireland, UPMC acquired Whitfield Clinic and renamed it UPMC Whitfield. Opened in 2006, it is the largest private hospital in the South-East, serving a half million people in five counties and nationwide.
UPMC Whitfield continues to build on its wide range of existing services, including orthopaedics, sports injuries, ophthalmology, oncology, endoscopy and other surgical specialties. With more than 50 consultants and 180 employees, the hospital has been growing rapidly in the past five years.
